Tour Itinerary

Amman - Petra

We’ll begin with a friendly introduction, and a small tour briefing. A detour to Starbucks to pick up your favourite coffee will take place after, on your request. From there, it’s a 4-hour (250 km) drive from Amman to Petra in a luxury car which includes WiFi, sipping coffee and enjoying your selected snacks. Water and soft drinks are provided at no extra cost. There is also an iPhone charger, headphones and you’ll have access to an iPad with an internet connection, and Netflix.

Petra Visitor Centre

Upon arrival at Petra's Visitor Centre, you can enjoy 15-20 minutes of free time to put on your hiking shoes, prepare your stuff, and check out the map of Petra. You can even purchase some last-minute tour necessities, or maybe a souvenir from one of the many on-site shops. Bathrooms are also available, of course.

Siq

You can then expect a mesmerizing walk through the Siq, a 1.2-kilometre path going through a rocky fissure which was once considered the main entranceway into the great city of Petra. It’s from here that you’ll see Petra for the first time, catching your first few sights of the city, and becoming part of its history.

Al-Khazneh (the Treasury)

The main attraction of Petra is the first one to visit. This near-perfectly preserved structure is among the first things you’ll see as you come out of the Siq, offering a grandiose view of the massive monument and the unique, rose-pink stone it was carved from, which also comprises the gorgeous surrounding cliff-face. Take pictures and spend some time beneath this grand entryway, which once housed countless treasures and items of value, living up to its name.

Nabatean Amphitheatre

From there, it’s a matter of seeing the great city’s other great structures, such as the ancient 3,000-seat amphitheatre, built around the 1st century AD. The entirety of what remains is built out of solid rock, and you’re offered plenty of vast and thrilling angles to take pictures from.

Great Temple

The Great Temple, which is said to have once served as a royal reception hall, is another of the still-standing structures that sparsely populate the skeletal remains of Petra. A grand, monumental complex, and the largest freestanding structure still left in the ancient city. Even today, it retains its photogenic side, which we can proudly point out.

Temple of Dushares

One of the oldest man-made places of worship still standing in the world, the temple was built for the purpose of worshipping the Nabataean god, Dushara. It dates all the way back to the 1st century BC and was considered by many to be the most important temple in all of Petra.

Ad-Deir (the Monastery)

The last structure on the itinerary to check out is the city’s second most-visited. The Monastery, also called the Ad-Deir, is thought to have originally been used for religious purposes, having possibly undergone repurposing as a Byzantine-era church. It’s challenging to reach, sitting at the top of the infamous 800 steps, but the challenge and the payoff are entirely worthwhile for this hallmark of Nabataean architecture.

Petra - Amman

To conclude the tour, we will drive you all the way back to Amman and drop you off at your hotel, where we picked you up. No doubt after a satisfying and inspiring few hours in some of Jordan’s most famed archaeological sites in Petra.
